~ Fa-la-la-la-la~
La~ la~ la~la.

Ready or not . . . the Christmas season is upon us!

It seems we have so much to do, and we're running out of time with each passing moment! We've got shopping to do . . . cookies to bake . . . cards to be sent . . .(Calgon take me away!)

We ushered in the yuletide this last weekend at our house. Despite the continuing discussions about the financial "practicality" of buying an artificial tree, we again decided to purchase a real tree. We cut two inches off the bottom of the tree trunk and wrote the date, December 1, 2001, on it with magic marker and displayed it among the other seven years of "trunk-chunks." (It's become a tradition we all love at our house.)

Y'know, there's something about digging ALL THOSE BOXES of Christmas memorabilia, out from underneath the stairway that makes the "male-folk" at my house want to settle in for a long winter's nap! With a little "prompting" from mom, we all had a great time-- (grrrr.. Didn't we guys?)

Decorating for Christmas is one of my most favorite holiday traditions. Each box is unpacked carefully, with much expectancy and anticipation.

Every, single, mangled, string of tree lights is pulled out of its respective box, gritting our teeth, mumbling under our breath, "Will they work? Will they not?"

Nobody likes to untangle those obnoxious strands of wire and lights, anyway. It seems to me that it's a lot easier to just go down and BUY a new string of lights, than it is to sit and tediously check each and every little-bitty socket, to find out which one of the bulbs has gone "AWOL" during their hibernation period.

My most favorite part of all, is watching my son unpack the ornament boxes, re-living all his "Christmases Past" through each and every ornament.

"Awww. . . remember this . . ." and, "Ohhhh . . . .lookit my REINDEER I made in pre-school!" (Yeah, right son. You mean the one with the red, SMUSHED pom-pom nose and the twisted-in-20-different-directions pipe cleaner antlers?) How could I forget!

But before I get all bent outta shape myself, and in a tiff over my hectic schedule and million things to do before the holidays, I have to stop for a minute and remember that Christmas is not about hustle . . . it's not about bustle. It's not about the "fancy-schmancy" mohair sweater that I got on clearance for Auntie Lou . . .(in her favorite "off-the-wall" color!) It's not about presents, or glitter, or glitz.

Christmas is about simple things~
Quiet, humble things~
It's about a stable, and a manger, and a baby!
It's about glorious things, marvelous, WONDERFUL THINGS!
It's about the birth of the King of Kings, Prince of Peace~
it's about a Savior for all nations!
The gift to last for all eternity . . .
It's about Love. Pure Love.
It's about Jesus~ and THAT'S reason to CELEBRATE!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS~ from our family to yours!!
