December 7

Ho! Ho! Ho! What a day, what a day. I started my day off by reviewing the flight plan for the big trip on Christmas Eve. We had all our maps and charts out all over the place along with weather predictions, and forecasts. When you make a big trip like this you need to be prepared for anything to happen. So along with my main route that I will take, we also need alternative routes in case we encounter bad weather or big storms that the reindeer can not fly through. We want to make sure that the reindeer stay safe too!!

So there we were! We were decided on the main route, the same one I have used for many, many generations, we were just undecided for the alternative routes. All of the alternative routes depend also on where I am in the world when the bad weather comes across. For example, if the weather in China is bad should I go down to say Korea and then come back up or should I go into Siberia and come back down. The bad part is, is I do not have a lot of time to make decisions while delivering toys. It really has to be precise and at that moment. So after hours and hours of debating the right way and then Elf NiteTime spilling hot chocolate on one of the maps,(lets just say if this was real life the pacific ocean would now be made of hot chocolate Ho,Ho, Ho), we were able to plot out routes for just about any kind of weather problem!!

After we completed our emergency routes, it was time to check out the sleigh. We went out to the garage where all my sleighs from over the many, many years are stored. The sleigh we currently used was parked near the mechanics area just in case we have to work on it or modify it. So as we got near the mechanic area I started to look around. I looked and looked and to my surprise my sleigh was gone. I asked where the chief sleigh mechanic, Elf Bells, was. Elf Bells helper, Elf Sharati said that she went on lunch and then is taking the rest of the day off so she can go Christmas shopping. I then asked Elf Sharati where my sleigh was. Sharati stated that Bells is in the middle of “decommissioning the old girl”. OH, No, No, No!! That can not be, that will not do! We need to have a sleigh for the trip!! I said to Sharati “ Bells is not due back until tomorrow”? “ That’s right Santa, is something wrong? I can go find her”. No, no, that is ok my dear. We can deal with this tomorrow when Bells is back, thank you. I turned to my team of elves and said “I will be in my office for the rest of the day”, and I turned and headed to my office.

Once I was inside my office and I could be alone with my thoughts I started to think

“ Why did she decommission my sleigh, does she not realize there is no time to build a new one? What are we going to do if there is no sleigh? We can not deliver presents without a sleigh. Oh my goodness gracious, mercy me. The sun of tomorrow will not say hello fast enough…..tomorrow, feels so long away….tomorrow”………
