I was in deep thought when Lilac Star came in my office and said "hurry, there is a problem at the elementary school." We raced down the stairs and out the front door. As we made a right turn to go to the school the elfbulance, fire department and Elfamedics went hurrying past us. All I could think was is must be terrible! After looking both ways we crossed the street and at the corner made a left. We should always look both ways when crossing the street no matter how much in a hurry we are so we don't run out in front of a car, or in our case a fast moving sleigh. 1/2 way down the block is the elementary school. There were elfrin and teachers walking carefully out of the building. I found Fire Chief Mac and was told that there was an odor of burning wires in a classroom and it was spreading throughout the school. He assured me that the situation as "well in hand". The fire elves were at this very moment going through the school making sure everyone has come out of the building. Mrs. Claus and some of her friends came with hot chocolate and cookies so we took all the elfrin to the field across from the school to keep them safe and of course have some fun while the problem was being found and fixed. We played and laughed for what seemed like hours, but like all good things it had to end. Fire elf Charlotte came and said the odor was taken care of and it was safe for all the elfrin to go back inside the school and back to class and I could return to work…darn it! I was having so much fun. I started back to the workshop still humming and decided I was hungry so I looked at my watch. I was shocked to discover we had only been playing for about an hour, it seemed like a lot longer. I got back to the workshop and was about to tell everyone that all was ok when the lunch whistle blew. Sometimes I can't get a word in no matter what. If it isn't whistles it's phones or intercoms.
