December 18

As strange as it may seem, nothing got done today at all. This season has had some busy days, complicated days, days full of meetings, days of bizarre happenstances and various other descriptive terms for days for sure. Today can truly fall on its own description of just being one of those lazy days.

As days tend to start off in the repetitive manner they do, I was amazed at the sheer lack of motivation by all. Sure, everyone is anxiously anticipating the big day coming up almost too quickly, but could that have created a mass desire for long naps? I woke up with the normal cheerful HoHoHo to all and a quick guzzling of the first cup of hot chocolate chock full of mini marshmallows, but that was about as far as I got. By the time I finished the second cup, I was teetering between napping right where I sat in the kitchen or heading back to bed.

I am sure if it were not for Elves Jingles, Erty, Loopy and Caregiver giving me the day's news and plans, I probably would have zonked out for a bit longer. However, being the jolly ol' Saint Nick I have the responsibilities of getting myself going to ensure the best of the best is produced. As the five of us headed out the door, I noticed practically every single one was giving up some added stretches and jaw straining yawns of their own.

Of course sometimes when one person yawns it catches onto everyone, so I thought little about it as we made our way to the workshops. The buzzing and bustling singing across the morning air was a bit subdued. Going shop to shop, workstation to work station, it gave me to wonder why everyone was so slow and doing an abnormal amount of soft hammering and drilling. Making as little noise with as little of a rush as possible.

It does not take a qualified safety inspector to know that some bad accidents can happen in most any area that people are a bit tired. Regardless of the reasoning of being exhausted or a bit tired, I knew we needed to find something less problematic to do. I asked the foursome that was with me if they thought today would be a perfect day for a town get-together and have a good ol' cookout with games and fun instead of working away. If need be we could certainly extend working hours later to catch up, but it is easier to catch up with healthy elves than with injured ones.

Obviously everyone was in agreement and they set about passing along to the various shop foreelves to send everyone home and make up some foods and meet at the town center at 2 for a banquet style cookout.

What a feast it was. The food was as incredible as ever but more importantly, everyone got a needed break from the building stress of building with a looming deadline. This might be a Saturday for most of the world, but it is still a high pressure day for us here at Christmas Town.

Sometimes a break from normal routine gets you in a better frame of mind for the future work and with luck, that is exactly what today managed to bring.

Did you know human thighbones are stronger than concrete?

So with a final Ho! Ho! And a Ho! I am flipping off the power and throwing myself head first into my bed hoping I donít bounce Mrs. Claus off (chuckle chuckle).

Sleep well, sleep tight, sleep restfully.
